Meet Josh
I grew up playing in the waves of California’s Pacific coast, and discovered sea kayaking on family vacation as a teenager. I’ve been paddling for nearly 25 years, with over 10 years as a professional guide and instructor. Kayaking has been the constant thread through my life, and I’ve been lucky to have the opportunity to teach, guide, and lead multi-day expeditions up and down the west coast. From sailboat-based tours in Alaska’s wilderness, to whale watching tours in Hawaii, to skills classes in Oregon and Washington, I’ve been fortunate to paddle in many beautiful places. My travels have recently brought me to Bellingham, and I’m excited to continue sharing my passion for the ocean and paddling with others.
I especially love teaching beginners. My goal, always, is to meet you at your level and help you reach your goals. The ocean is a wonderful place, and I hope to give you the skills you need to go explore it with confidence. I like to help people expand their comfort zone with supportive, personalized instruction combined with opportunities for self-discovery.
My professional certifications include American Canoe Association Level 3 Coastal Kayaking Instructor, Wilderness First Responder, and Leave No Trace Trainer.
